The Safe, Quality Food (SQF) Program is one of the world’s leading food safety and quality management systems, designed to meet the needs of retailers and suppliers worldwide.
The SQF 1000 Code is designed for Primary Producers. It enables Producers to demonstrate that they have implemented responsible production practices to deliver safe food that meets the quality standards specified by their customer.
SQF 1000 Code provides an opportunity for Producers to implement a management system that covers multiple products.
SAFE QUALITY FOOD (SQF) 1000
In 1998, the SQF 1000 Code was developed and pilot programs were implemented to ensure its applicability to the primary production sector. It was prepared with the assistance of Primary Producers and experts in quality management, food safety, food regulation, food processing, agriculture production systems, food retailing, food distribution and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Guidelines.
SQF BASED ON HACCCP
SQF 1000 Code is based on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system, a proven method used by the food industry to minimize food safety risks and reduce the incidence of unsafe food reaching the marketplace
SQF 1000 certification is supported by an increasing number of international retailers and foodservice providers, and is recognized by the Global Food Safe Initiative (GFSI).
Why Choose SQF-1000?
- The SQF 1000 Code provides Primary Producers a food safety and quality management certification program that is tailored to their needs.
- SQF 1000 Code enables them to meet product traceability, regulatory, food safety and commercial quality criteria in a structured and cost effective manner.
- SQF 1000 is available in three separate levels of certification.
- The implementation of an SQF 1000 management system addresses a buyer’s food safety and quality requirements and provides the solution for Producers supplying local and global food markets.
- Provides optional modules for responsible environmental, social, and food defense practices.
About GFSI
The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), co-ordinated by CIES - The Food Business Forum, was launched in May 2000. The GFSI Foundation Board, a retailer-driven group, with manufacturer advisory members, provides the strategic direction and oversees the daily management.
Under the umbrella of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), 7 major retailers have come to a common acceptance of four GFSI benchmarked food safety schemes.
The benchmarking work undertaken by the standard owners and other key stakeholders on four food safety schemes (BRC, IFS, Dutch HACCP and SQF) has now reached a point of convergence. Each scheme has now aligned itself with common criteria defined by food safety experts from the food business, with the objective of making food manufacture as safe as possible. As a result, this will also drive cost efficiency in the supply chain and reduce the duplication of audits.
