AS9100 Revision C is Released

By: Roger Ritterbeck, QMI-SAI Global Product Manager

AS9100’s Revision C has been published by the SAE. As your registrar, QMI-SAI Global would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the timelines for upgrading your registration to AS9100C.
Even though the standard has been published, accredited audit activity to AS9100C will not occur until later this year, probably around the September timeframe. This is because AS9101 is the required checklist for AS9100, and revision D of that document –which accompanies AS9100C – is not anticipated to be published until approximately June 2009.

Before your upgrade audit can occur, QMI-SAI Global will be required to undergo industry sanctioned training. This training will take place once both 9100 & 9101 are published. It is expected that auditing to AS9100C can begin possibly by September 2009.

The anticipated transition period for organizations moving from AS9100B to AS9100C is 30 months. The 30 month clock starts January 2009; deadline for upgrade will be July 2011. AS9100B certificates will be accepted until the end of the transition period and registrars are able to issue AS9100B certificates for 18 months into the 30 month cycle. For QMI-SAI Global customers, until the 18 month mark in the transition, your organization will have the choice of whether your audit will be to Rev B or Rev C; any audits after the 18 month mark must be conducted to Rev C.

In order to help you facilitate a smooth transition to the new standard, QMI-SAI Global will provide your organization with a variety of materials:
